Day 1

Vision and purpose: nurture, heal, inspire and create

“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”

― Rumi

Nurture and Heal

As a child, the nurturer and explorer took precedence, as for so many of you. I didn't realize it then, but the desire to know and learn was a huge part of being the artist I am today.

Family is everything to me. They are the inspiration, the soul, and heart of my life and work. I am a mom, wife, daughter, friend, nurse, educator and artist. This by no means encompasses all that I am. As my life evolved and changed, so did these roles. As I learned from each stage of my life, these aspects of my personality shifted and merged. They became more and more defined and more apparent.

The nurturing side came naturally, being the oldest of three children. I took care of my younger siblings, who were 6 and 7 years my junior. My parents worked 12-13 hours a day in order to make ends meet. Quite often, I was the third parent and sitter. I changed diapers, cooked, and cleaned since the age of 10. They were always at my side, exploring and learning about life with me. I was always a huge part of their milestones in life. I was their protector, their sister, their advisor, their role model, and their friend. I cherish those memories and am extremely grateful for the relationship it created with my siblings. They are my back bone and my cheerleaders. Regardless of life changes, differences in opinions, and difficult transitions, they have always been there.

My parents are the shining examples and role models of success, perseverance, and unconditional love. They taught me the meaning of love and family. They also taught me to follow my dreams and passions. They came from one of the poorest of situations and now live in one of the richest. This was accomplished through pure determination. They surmounted multiple obstacles and barriers...they Left their loved ones, learned 2 more languages then the 2 they knew. They not only learned to survive in a foreign land and culture, they learned to thrive in it. My parents fought to create this life and paved an avenue for their loved ones to do the same in this country. They constantly astonish me with their determination and discipline.

Healing and nurturing are inextricable parts of my life. I have been a nurse for 20 years, specifically in neurology. I have always been fascinated with the brain and its unfathomable depths. The longer I have been a nurse, the more I realize, how very little we know about the brain and human potential. We now know it is capable of learning and evolving at any age. It is able to define reality as our will dictates. Its limits are undefined, just as the universe is vast and unknowable. Its capabilities are only as limited as we allow it to be.

Nursing and other healthcare professions are an integral part of my family and are highly respected. My mother is a retired nurse. Many of my extended family are also nurses. My sister is a respiratory therapist. My brother is a physician. The ability to think on your feet, problem-solve and to change with the environment are crucial to these fields. The very core of healthcare is dependent on creative, nurturing, compassionate, healing, and inspirational individuals.

Portrait of my inspiration

Portrait of my vision and future

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.” ― Rumi

I have always been inclined towards art but it took a back seat to my other roles. Now I look forward to immersing myself onto this new path and the new journey it entails. I hope to bring all I have learned and experienced to you, my reader, through my art and this platform. I do not wish to seem pretentious, but to humbly offer the fruits of my passion. I hope it offers you inspiration. I hope you find a kinship in knowing, you and I are very similar, in our burning desire to know we make a difference.

Now you know my background, I want to share the source that feeds my soul, my husband and my children. They are my cheerleaders, my support, my strength. They bring back the enthusiasm, motivation, and vitality. My children’s openness to new ideas and fresh approach to all things have renewed my creativity and passion for living. My husband’s desire to support and collaborate with me on this new journey has, and is, giving me the courage and confidence to follow my passions.
